Whether you like Trump or not, this impeachment should be highlighting the sinister nature of the Left. An impeachment which is constitutionally debatable; based on political double standards and contains manipulated evidence. Impeachment, which was once widely known to have the highest threshold for its use, has now been trivialised with the Democrats attempting a second impeachment in one presidential term. This is nothing more than a show trial and this is why.
The US constitution outlines that impeachment was intended to remove any person that holds political office from power even against the will of a sitting president. This means dictatorial president can not protect someone that has abused power, thus bringing extra securities to the American political system. Impeachment is solely for people currently holding office. However, due to the House, that is currently held by Democrats, impeaching Trump before he left office, it has been argued that the Senate can still continue with a trial after he has left office. This has been highly controversial with academics that interpret and study the constitution. The consequences of being impeached leads to two things: removal from office and barring from any future office. Some academics argue that the second of the two consequences can still be upheld and therefore the trial is still constitutional whereas others outline that the constitution does not state that you can impeach a president once they have left office. Regardless, the Senate voted 55:45 in favour that the trial was still constitutional. Despite popular claims, this does not mean that everyone who voted in favour think Donal Trump has committed anything impeachable.
Normally, a Senate Impeachment trial should have the Chief Justice presiding over the trial. However, Trump is no longer a sitting president, therefore the impeachment was able to have a Democrat preside over the impeachment. Senator Patrick Leahy became the president pro tempore which is the most senior senator for the party in power (Democrats). In this trial, Sen. Mike Leahy has a trifecta of responsibilities in this trial. He is judge, juror and witness. When convicted someone for any criminal offence, you would hope that the judge is non-partisan and only has the responsibility of being the judge so that someone is judged on the level of guilt through facts and not emotional hysteria. Before we even get to the trial, you can see that this is already skewed one way.
Donald Trump is being trialled on the grounds that he incited the violence and insurrection that took place on the Capitol on January 6th. What has been widely spread around the globe is that Trump incited violence, however, vast amounts of context has been removed from his speech for example:
“I know that everyone here will soon be marching over to the Capitol building”
“If you don’t fight like hell you’re not going to have a country anymore.”
“And you have to get your people to fight.”
These quotes taken out of context sound awful yet when we take them in the disingenuous context that places like Vox and BBC have provided, what has he actually told people to do? The threshold for inciting violence is extremely high. You literally have to tell people exactly what violence you want them to commit or support people who are rioting. As literal as it sounds, the threshold has to be this high else you are determining guilt based on emotional inferences and this leads the way to impeach or criminally convict someone for any violent actions of another person. If you read the entire transcript or film of Trump’s speech, you will find that he continuously points out peaceful actions. One of the misrepresented quotes is “And you have to get your people to fight.” This quote has been widely distributed to show how Trump incited violence. If you read the transcript you will find that he said “And you have to get your people to fight. And if they don’t fight, we have to primary the hell out of the ones that don’t fight. You primary them.” Trump called for his followers to “primary” the senators and congresspeople. This is the legal way to change the people who represent you at the Capitol in America. This happened with the quote, “I know that everyone here will soon be marching over to the Capitol building” When you look at what else he said straight after this, he said:
Anyone you want, but I think right here, we’re going to walk down to the Capitol, and we’re going to cheer on our brave senators and congressmen and women, and we’re probably not going to be cheering so much for some of them. Because you’ll never take back our country with weakness. You have to show strength and you have to be strong. We have come to demand that Congress do the right thing and only count the electors who have been lawfully slated, lawfully slated. I know that everyone here will soon be marching over to the Capitol building to peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard.
This leads me into the double standard being held by Democrats. Over the Summer, which was ironically called ‘The Summer of Love’, we saw over $2 billion in damages, hundreds of businesses looted and over 28 deaths. During this civil unrest, people from the political left were not only supporting the violence, but using vastly more inflammatory language than Trump. You could go back further to the beginning of Trump’s presidential campaign as well as throughout his entire tenure to find inflammatory language used against Trump and his supporters. You will also find the hypocritical notion that the word “fight” that was used by Trump at his speech, literally meant to ‘fight’ Some of these people that show this double standard include: AOC, Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer and Maxine Waters. Trump’s defence team highlighted this in a video shared during the impeachment trial. You even had Vice President Kamala Harris setting up a fund to bail out rioters over the Summer.

When it then came to the House Impeachment Managers, when they had their turn to present evidence to prove Trump incited violence, they artificially manipulated evidence. Eric Swalwell, who allegedly has been sleeping with Chinese spies, presented evidence. He cited a tweet from Jennifer Lynn Lawrence (a former Breitbart writer). This tweet stated “We are bringing the Calvary Mr President.” However, next to her Twitter handle was a blue tick. This would indicate that she is verified on Twitter. Except, as soon as this evidence was shown, Jennifer instantly responded claiming she had never been verified. So why add that in? It was clearly to add gravitas to the tweet. Manipulating the impression on the public.
On top of this, another Impeachment Manager presented evidence that Trump had called Mike Pence a “pussy” for not rejecting electors in a conversation between them. The issue with this evidence is that it was cited from the New York Times and they sourced that quote from “two people briefed on the conversation”. The evidence comes from two people that were not even involved in the conversation. If you look up the term ‘paraphrasing’, this would meet the requirements for unreliable evidence.
Moreover, claims were made about GOP Sen. Mike Lee. He apparently had a phone call with trump during the riots. Apparently, Trump asked Mike Lee to file additional objections. Mike Lee, who is a taking part in the Senate trial, was furious with this claim and sought it to be removed. It was removed in the end due to the sources being ‘anonymous’. Again, untrustworthy sources being used to convince Senator s and the public that Trump is guilty of all charges made against him.
Something which Democrats miss out in their evidence, is that it has been proven by the F.B.I that the scenes at the Capitol were premeditated. Therefore, Trump’s speech in no way created the violence. In addition to this, the New York Times created a timeline video with time stamps highlighting the key events of that day. What you will notice when watching this video, is that the riot had already begun on the East side of the Capitol before Trump’s speech had even started. More evidence that trump did not direct people to riot at the Capitol.
While it is clear that Trump says things that people do not like from both sides of the political spectrum, it is absolutely untrue that he incited the violence. What the Democrats are doing is not just hypocritical and divisive, but it is damaging American politics. They are setting unequal standards based on political opinions. They held this impeachment to try and convict an innocent former president because Trump petrifies the radical agenda of the Left. They want to stop him from running again and ending their insane power grab on the Western free world.
